Ventsiquero and The Wine Chaser, the journey continues...

Inspired by his passion for the land and farming, Chilean Gonzalo Vial decided to launch an ambotious project in 1998: a winery that would honour Chile’s origins through both the making and its wines. The first vines at the Trinidad property were planted in the coastal region of the Maipo Valley, where the new winery was then built.

In 1999 the new winery was formally launched, its name paid homage to the Chilean Patagonia: 'Ventisquero', which in Spanish translates as glacier. At the dawn of a new millennium the first harvest took place, led by chief winemaker Felipe Tosso. The first Ventisquero wines were released in 2001. Drawing on advice from Australian winemaker John Duval and thanks to the effort and talent of a great team, the winery began to grow. New offices in the United States and Europe were opened, and plantations in other wine regions such as Casablanca and Colchagua were established. Meanwhile, Ventisquero wines were gaining recognition in Chile and all over the world.

In 2008 Viña Ventisquero expanded to the Huasco Valley, right in the heart of Atacama Desert. During that same year, the winery began growing vines on a new estate in the coastal Leyda Valley as well. By 2020 Ventisquero Wine Estates Holding was a happy reality, Ventisquero was finally exporting a wide range of wines to the world from the very best wine regions in Chile.

Ventisquero is all about great quality wines. Motivated by an ongoing curiosity to achieve such high standard, Ventisquero goes for experimenting, taking alternative routes while challenging established ways of doing things. That defines the spirit of this succesful winery.

The Wine Chaser, invites to a very special dinner at the incredible A Love Story Wine & Bistro. Tomorrow, March 30 at 8PM, we will be pairing exceptional wines from Ventisquero such as Tara, Enclave and Vertice. The dinner, as usual, will be led by sommelier Idania Gonzalez and will feature dishes by Executive Chef Victor Millan.

Over the years, The Wine Chaser has conducted several wine dinners to help many of you to get into the details of pairing.
