Ventisquero, from the best valleys in Chile!

Updated: Jul 28, 2022

Today's post is especially aimed at all those friends who love Chilean wine and who have recently asked us about some recommendations. Fortunately, not only do we officially represent the winery that we will talk about today, but also very soon, you will be able to taste those recommendations in our upcoming events. In general, this blog is also aimed at lovers of the wine that is ethically and responsibly produced, in harmony with the environment.

Let's talk about the prestigious Ventisquero Wine States, a large Chilean producer founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial who, led by by his passion and love for the land and winemaking, decided to launch a new project in his 60’s: a winery that would honor Chile’s origins. He planted the first vines in the coastal part of the Maipo Valley, where the new winery was built. The new winery was formally launched with a name that referred and paid homage to the glaciers of the Chilean Patagonia.

From its very beginnings, Ventisquero has imagined and produced unique, innovative wines. Faithful to their philosophy of going one step further, they produce modern, avant-garde, high-quality wine with grapes from their own vineyards in Chile's most important wine-producing regions: Maipo, Casablanca, Colchagua and Leyda. In 2008 they planted the first vines in the Huasco Valley right in the Atacama Desert, the driest desert on earth. They work the land with precise, state-of-the-art technology. These ecological practices pair with the experience of an adventurous and daring team of winemakers: Felipe Tosso, Alejandro Galaz, Angel Marchant and former Penfolds Grange Winemaker John Duval. Together they have achieved the optimum conditions for creating unique wines, the incredible portfolio that now precedes Ventisquero.

As we mentioned, at the core of Ventisquero’s winemaking is the care for their vineyards and land, which is reflected in every bottle. The winemakers try to produce wines that reflect Chile’s terroirs, incorporating saving water methods and always respecting the environment. In 2002 the vineyard obtained the "ISO 14001 Environmental Management" certification, which seeks to prevent pollution and comply with environmental protection laws. In 2013, Ventisquero became the first winery in Chile to be Sustainable Certified by Wines of Chile (both vineyards and winery). The pillars of the winery's environmental commitment are their social mission, water management, energy efficiency, recycling practices, chemical-free treatment of land and reduction of the CO2 footprint. At Ventisquero Wine Estates, these parameters are constantly measured and mitigated, trying to reduce the environmental impact day by day.

This dedication has enabled the creation of a portfolio of balanced, complex and elegant wines —from the Colchagua Valley’s highly sought-after Apalta region in Colchagua Valley, the cool coastal areas of the Casablanca and Leyda Valleys by the Pacific Ocean, the saline soils of the Atacama Desert or the traditions of the Maipo Valley.

Grey line wines, now included in our brand-ambassadorship, represents the complete expression of single blocks of vines, paying tribute to the famous Grey Glacier, located in the Chilean Patagonia. Combined with the craft of passionate winemakers and the exceptional care taken at every stage of the winemaking process this line reflects the diversity of Chilean terroir. Grey Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are definitely exceptional.

The first one (here to the left), shows a deep ruby red with violet hues. On the nose it initially reveals aromas of black and red berries, such as cranberries, black plums and raspberries. The palate has balanced acidity and flavors of juicy black fruit, along with smooth, well-rounded tannins sustained by the notes of soft French oak. This is a very friendly, inviting wine. The latter one, shows a characteristic fruitiness of Maipo region. It is a fruity Cabernet with aromas of black pepper, some moist soil and tobacco. Of elegant and smooth body, of balanced structure, this is a wine that transpires complexity through its tannins, tamed for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Other great creations from Ventisquero include the finest Enclave, Vertice, Heru, Pangea, Obliqua and Tara.

Nominated by Wine Enthusiast magazine as one of the best “New World Winery” and winners of the Berliner Wein Trophy in 2018 as “Best Chilean Producer”, Ventisquero demonstrates the importance of taking risks, breaking rules and expanding the sensorial experience to a diversity of terroirs. No worries, we will keep you posted on our next events so that you don't miss the opportunity of tasting the exceptional creations from Ventisquero Wine Estates!

Have a happy week and... let's meet here next Wednesday again!

Until then, Santé!
