The Wine Chaser opens a tv segment for UniVista!

It's Wednesday... and we have great news. We are very happy to announce that The Wine Chaser is now conducting a regular segment about the wonderful world of wines on Univista TV. We will help our audience on learning about wine and its infinite stories, about the different varietals and terroirs, about all the aspects that make wine such a special product.

UniVista TV is a local channel in Miami aimed at promoting Cuban culture. It was built with the latest technology, a remote unit and beautiful studio and set designs. Production mixes entertainment with information and assistance on a variety of subjects. "El Show de Carlucho", of which we will be part of, is truly a pioneer in the digital world with an innovative format that fuses a television production with the immediacy and connection of social networks. If you have a phone, tablet, TV or any mobile device with internet access, you can enter www.univista.tv in your browser and navigate through both funny and interesting topics.

Last week, our leader and sommelier Idania Gonzalez and chef Gerald Falcon, owner of Peru Express, presented a selection of wines from Avelino Vegas and talked about a really interesting aspect of wine: pairings. Idania explained how a great food and wine pairing creates a perfect balance between the components of a dish and the characteristics of a wine. For all foodies and even casual wine drinkers, pairing a nice glass of wine with a delicious plate of food can be the combination that sends your taste buds into orbit. But how do you do it? As explained in the segment, there are general rules of thumb and more nuanced ones as well. But first is first, pair your food with a wine that you’ll actually like. Balance is the key, wine and food need to balance each other out, with neither one overwhelming the taste of the other. This doesn’t mean doing opposite pairings, rather pair equal flavors to create a good balance as Idania said. Also bear in mind to match the wine to the most prominent element of the dish when pairing. This could be the seasonings, or the sauce. Never forget the sauce! Actually, most wine connoisseurs recommend pairing wine with the sauce of the dish instead of the main element of the recipe.

Generally, food and wine pairings will improve the experience of any restaurant customer or food lover. They will feel more connected to the experience and ultimately feel as all the elements of it are enhanced. It gives them an opportunity to be adventurous, without being worried that they have made the wrong choices. This is why we will talk about this topic again in the future.

So reach for a glass of wine with your favorite snack and reap the rewards of wine's health benefits, plus create an incredible taste sensation.
