Desquiciado Wines, made in Tupungato.

Hello dear friends! This is a 'good news' Wednesday. We are pleased to announce that The Wine Chaser is now representing Desquiciado Wines, a very unique winery located in Tupungato, Argentina.

The labels of Desquiciado bottles summarize the strength of nature, the expression of the soil and the wildness of each represented animal. That is a very accurate representation of what Desquiciado is all about. The project stemmed from the great friendship of two wine lovers, Gonzalo Tamagnini and Martin Sesto. Both met around 8 years ago while working together on other wine projects. At a point both realized they agreed on many ideas about wine, such as styles and tasting notes, so they decided to communicate and spread their passion for viticulture with their own enological creations.

In the process, they encountered many challenges, but being young and so passionate awakened a stubborn desire for improvement, innovation and experimentation with new techniques.

'Desquiciado' translates to English as 'insane'. However, there is nothing too crazy about these wines. Gonzalo is a professional winemaker and for many years he has been experimenting with vintages to create wines through different methods, seeking that quintessential combination of factors with which he can identify his passion with. Martin has also been in the industry for over 10 years, developing his career in the marketing side of the business. He has gained experience on sales strategy and logistics by working with several very important wineries alongside great winemakers. Together they are a powerhouse. In 2015 their journey together took off and now, The Wine Chaser has happily joined them.

For those not so familiar with the area where Desquiciado comes from, Tupungato is the northernmost sub-region of the Uco Valley. It is one of the more important sub-regions within Mendoza, the wine mecca of Argentina. Full-bodied red wines made from Malbec and crisp, elegant whites made from Chardonnay are specialties here. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are the principal supporting varieties and are often seen combined in a Bordeaux-style blends. Tupungato is in the rain shadow of the Andes and, as such, experiences very little rainfall. Most vineyards are drip-irrigated using high-quality Andean meltwater, and winemakers have a high degree of control over the amount of water that the vines receive during the growing season. The vines are mainly planted on stony, free-draining alluvial soils. The lack of water stresses the vines, reducing vigor and yields and causing them to grow small, concentrated berries.

Referring to the ambitious project, Sesto stated that '(...) the idea behind their wines is to integrate those who want to start in the world of wine but also more savvy consumers who may already have a sharper palate. Desquiciado is about bringing together those who profusely know and enjoy our tasting profile - fraction represented by Gonzalo -, and those who understand a little, like me. Achieving such goal has definitely been a very enjoyable challenge.'

The high scores obtained by Desquiciado speak loud and clear

about the quality of their wines.

We are truly excited for this new opportunity and cannot wait to taste and pair these amazing wines with you. Then, we will tell you the story behind each label, and unveil every single note...

And that's a wrap for today. Have a lovely day and rest of the week!

Santé!
